Frequently Asked Questions
Does my insurance cover the cost of any of these procedures?
As a courtesy, we can file most insurance claims for you. Please bring your insurance plan information on your first visit. We will work to ensure that you receive the maximum benefits to which you are entitled. This means that although you're ultimately responsible for your bill, we'll file your insurance and accept payment from your insurance company. We will gladly bill your insurance provider, and you may be entitled to partial to full reimbursement depending on your insurance carrier. The fastest way to find out is to call your insurance company directly. You can also call or email our Brookfield office with questions.
What payment methods do you accept? Do you offer financing?
We understand the importance of dental healthcare, but we also understand that insurance does not offer complete coverage. Your dental health is our primary purpose, so we’ve created a diverse menu of financial options, from our extensive list of accepted PPOs and discount plans to deferred financing plans with no interest. Please see our Policies & Insurance page for details.
How can I safely whiten my teeth?
We offer BriteSmile in-office teeth whitening or take-home teeth whitening kits. Both use safe materials and have a high success rate in giving people the results they want.
What are the advantages of dental implants over dentures and bridges?
Improved appearance: When you lose an entire tooth, crown and root, shrinkage of the jawbone may cause your face to look older. Dental implants can stop this process, whereas a traditional denture or bridge cannot.
- Maintained natural teeth: In traditional methods, two teeth adjacent to a missing tooth must be ground down to anchor a bridge. Dental implants often eliminate the need to modify healthy teeth.
- Permanent solution: There are no loose parts to worry about. The implant is stable and comfortable. No adjustment is need after placement. Normally, a dental implant will serve a patient for life.
At what age should my children first see a dentist?
Generally, we recommend that children have their first dental check up at three years old. We call the first appointment a Happy Visit, and during this appointment, we show and tell your child what a cleaning entails. In addition, first visits allow us check for any potential oral health/dental problems and provide your child with a positive introduction to our dental office.
My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?
While bleeding gums after teeth brushing may concern you, the condition may or may not require attention, depending on the source of the problem. Bleeding gums can be caused by any of the following: improper, rough, scrubbing instead of gentle, circular brushing motions; using a hard-bristled tooth brush instead of a soft one; plaque and/or tartar build-up below the gum line; or gum sensitivity due to gingivitis or periodontal disease. If this problem occurs frequently when you brush, contact our office to set up an evaluation appointment.
I brush every day, but my breath is just not fresh. Is there anything I can do?
Millions of people struggle with bad breath, also known as halitosis, despite daily teeth brushing. This checklist of procedures can eliminate the problem: twice daily brushing, daily flossing and tongue cleaning; regular professional cleanings; and careful cleaning of any dentures or removable dental appliances. However, if your hygiene is meticulous and the problem persists, we can offer several solutions.
First, we can provide a plastic tool called a tongue scraper that cleans away bacterial build-up on your tongue and significantly alleviates odor. Or, we can recommend a specially-prepared rinse or toothpaste designed to actually break the odor-causing sulfur bonds that cause bad breath. We may also suspect a systemic or internal problem, such as an infection or underlying condition, in which case we may recommend a visit with your family physician or a specialist to identify and treat the cause.
I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?
Several procedures besides traditional metal braces can improve the appearance of your front teeth. For slightly crooked or unevenly worn teeth, a bit of tooth reshaping and porcelain or composite veneers can give your teeth a bright, uniform look. Also ask about our Red, White, and Blue system to adjust minor crowding and spacing with clear braces. We would be happy to talk with you about the options available and which one will best suit your circumstances.
My spouse snores and keeps me up at night. I have heard a dentist might be able to prescribe an appliance that prevents snoring. Can you help?
Snoring is tough on any relationship! Since it can be caused by a number of factors, we encourage you to have your spouse come in for a consultation and analysis with us to determine the cause. In some cases, a person may actually stop breathing for short periods during the night (a condition called sleep apnea). In other cases, snoring can be caused by enlarged anatomical structures within the mouth and throat. During sleep, the throat area relaxes, allowing these structures to collapse against one another and obstruct clear airflow. In the latter situation, we can prescribe and fit a special appliance called a snoreguard, which gently holds the mouth and throat in an open position during relaxed sleep, and thus prevents snoring.
What precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?
We use the latest sterilization techniques and practices to ensure your health and safety in our office, including ozone-protected water, which kills many types of bacteria. We proudly take extra steps like this to protect our patients.
